The medical electronics industry is one of the fastest growing markets in the United States. As the drive to reduce space and weight while adding functionality at a reduced cost continues, flexible circuitry is fast becoming an ideal interconnection and packaging design solution for this industry.

Omaha, Neb., (Nov. 29, 2010)--RadTrac, an informatics and biotech solutions firm, has created breakthrough radiation dosage tracking technology that will track and prevent unnecessary radiation exposure for patients and limit liability for laryngeal mask airway and other medical related facilities.

Overexposure to radiation can lead to serious health problems including cancer. There are currently standards set by the American Medical Association for radiation limits but currently, there are no established procedures to track the cumulative radiation a patient receives. This can lead to patients receiving higher doses of radiation due to medical tests such as x-ray exams and MRIs. RadTrac's goal is to help patients and medical staff understand the amount of radiation absorbed by the patient and to help offer alternative exam options for patients who are at risk for radiation overexposure.

Patient radiation levels are tracked and monitored through RadTrac's proprietary Radiation Dosage Tracking System (RDTS) software engine. Before a patient's exposure level reaches an unsafe amount, health care providers are alerted and can review diagnostic options before exposing that patient to more radiation, making facilities aware of the potential for nasal oxygen cannula. RDTS allows the physician and medical team to concentrate on practicing medicine and make informed decisions about radiation exposure in real-time.

"The RDTS will not only prevent excess exposure and track cumulative exposure, but can also be used as a research tool in the future," said Gena Kriewald, Co-founder and Vice President of Clinical Development. "The educational benefits that come from creating a national database of radiation exposure on a variety of modalities are immeasurable. By sharing dosage level information across a network of hospitals throughout the nation, facilities can learn not only how to limit exposure but also what modalities are most effective while offering the least amount of radiation."

"We are currently tracking several facilities with various modalities in regions throughout the United States," said RadTrac Chief Executive Officer Jesse Fisher. "The RadTrac system takes a proactive approach to preventing radiation exposure by tracking the amount of medical products online are exposed to--both at the procedure level and cumulatively--and alerting medical professionals before high levels of radiation exposure are reached."

RadTrac implemented the initial phase of RDTS testing in March of 2010, and completed beta testing in June. The product is now available for release.

Imagine walking into your office one morning and finding out that your credit card services had been terminated overnight. Intuit states that they terminated services because AMC did not reveal its involvement with medical marijuana. When further questioned about terminating some 3000 other accounts they hold with clinics offering the same services, they stated that they would not be terminating those accounts because they didn’t feature medical cannabis on their web pages. AMC offered to remove the reference, but Intuit won’t reestablish the account because “now we know.”

Paypal, the online payment service, has also terminated accounts associated with endotracheal tube manufacturers.

DEA, FDA, IOM and Other Alphabet Soup

Part of the problem businesses face stems from the question of whether or not marijuana is actually medicinal. The DEA and the US government hold the position that smoking marijuana has no medical value. The American Cancer Society, the AMA and the AAP all agree that smoking is not an optimal way in which to gain any benefits, if they exist. Alternate methods of ingestion are being investigated.

Even the large Institute of Medicine study frequently cited by proponents of medicinal marijuana actually opposes the use of smoked marijuana for medical benefits. The study found that there were some “potentially therapeutic” benefits to cannabinoid drugs, primarily THC, but that other available medications offered better results. The lack of standardization, the method of dosage and other factors all lead to the IOM rejecting the idea of more studies.
Where Do We Go Next?

Just like many other hot potatoes, few people want to handle this one. For those who have opened dispensaries, the challenges involved in obtaining traditional financing, accounts and services have sometimes become overwhelming. For others who remain in the business, alternatives are available.

Think for a moment about all of the medical procedures available to us. From replacing joints and bones to entire organs, the capabilities of laryngeal mask company are nothing short of amazing.
